Reesum Gumpa

Also known as Sang Ngag Yangtse Monastery, Rinchenpong Monastery was established around 1730 and is regarded by the Soreng District administration as one of Sikkim's oldest monasteries.

Located above Rinchenpong town, it can be reached by a short walk and offers a peaceful setting with views towards Mt. Kanchenjunga.

Known locally as Poison Lake locally known as Neing Dah, this is one of the historical places associated with Rinchenpong and is recognised among the sightseeing attractions of Rinchenpong.

I would not use the current description “serene emerald lake shrouded in local legends” unless we later research and explain the actual history behind the name.

Located around Upper Hathidhunga, Rinchenpong, Reesum Gumpa is another historic religious site surrounded by the natural landscape of the area.

Village & Forest Walks

A viewpoint and landscaped area associated with the local memory of Rabindranath Tagore's visit to Rinchenpong. The location offers sunrise and sunset views and has been developed with seasonal flowers, orchids and rhododendrons.

Also known locally as the Gurung Gumpa, this monastery near Rinchenpong town was established by the Gurung Buddhist Society in 1996 and can be visited on a short walk.

Rinchenpong is particularly suited to short hikes, village walks, birdwatching and exploring forested surroundings rather than only conventional sightseeing. These activities are also highlighted by the Soreng District tourism authority.

Views of Mt. Kanchenjunga

Rinchenpong is well known for its views towards the Kanchenjunga range, particularly when the skies are clear.

Sangadorjee Heritage Farm House shares this wider mountain setting, giving guests the opportunity to enjoy the landscape from the countryside rather than from a busy town centre.

Tip: Mountain visibility depends heavily on weather and cloud cover, so early mornings and clear days generally offer the best opportunity to enjoy the views.
