According to the family's local history, the farmhouse was established in 1819 by Sanga Doree Lepcha, who was known as a Thekidar and was associated with the collection of land revenue during the period when Sikkim was ruled by its monarchy.
His name became closely associated with this area, and local tradition connects Sangadorjee with the memory of Sanga Doree Lepcha.
Today, that history remains an important part of the identity of Sangadorjee Heritage Farm House and the story shared by the family who welcomes guests here.
A Home Through Changing Times
Since 1819, both Sikkim and the countryside around Sangadorjee have changed enormously. Yet the heritage of this farmhouse remains connected to the land and rural life that shaped the area.
Farming continues to form part of the property's identity today, with large cardamom, oranges, ginger and corn, together with cows, goats and beekeeping around the family farm.
Rather than being preserved simply as an old building, Sangadorjee Heritage Farm House continues as a living home, farm and place of hospitality.

It can also be found in the land around it, the crops that continue to grow here, the animals on the farm, the surrounding village and the family life that carries on within the property.
